WATERWATCH ACTIVITY

This activity caters for thirty children. Order equipment required when you book your camp dates. Leaders can download this Leaders briefing sheet.

ANIMAL ENCLOSURE

Animals, viewed from outside the enclosure including several small wallabies. For long term visitors to the property we are sad to advise that our two wombats Scrubby and Douglas have now both passed away from old age and we no longer have the sugar gliders.

POSSUM WALK

This new activity should be available soon,it will be a facilitatged activity run by volunteers.

ANIMAL SPONSORSHIP

Application forms, to sponsor Douglas Scrub animals, are available.  All donations support the upkeep of the animals.  A certificate is sent to all sponsors.

ANIMAL FOOTPRINT PLASTER CASTS

Equipment for plaster cast making includes: 'footprints', plaster of paris, mixing bowls and collars. Two sandpit areas are available for cast making.  One is adjacent to the main picnic shelter and the other is adjacent to the Douglas Scrub House activity shed.   Costs for hire of equipment available on application.

BIRDS

A bird list of the 88 species recorded at Douglas Scrub is available also Hints for birdwatching.  Birdwatching areas include a 'bird hide' below Paxlease House adjacent to the creek; a seat on the dam wall, where ducks, spoonbills and herons have been spotted; the heritage scrub along the nature trail; waterholes along creeklines. The aviary adjacent to the animal enclosure contains several species of birds for close-up viewing.


INSECTS

An identification guide to insect groups is available.

PROPOGATION WORKSHOPS

Management committee members conduct special workshops on tree planting, week eradication, seed collecting and propogation.  Tree planting, in particular is a popular activity for groups.  Please contact Booking Secretary at Guide House for details.

ORCHIDS AND OTHER PLANT SPECIES

A plant list is available of over 200 species of plants recorded from Douglas Scrub and their locations.  The list includes several rare and endangered species. During August - October Douglas Scrub is host to over 25 species of orchid starting in early August with tiny green hooded orchids just 5 cm tall, and the small mosquito orchids, to the stately spider, donkey and blue orchids which flower in September - October.

TREE TRAIL

Tree Trail leaflet is now available. 22 trees are depicted; some of historical interest including trees planted by the original owners, others include the rare quandong and spectacular river red gums and blue gums. A map is provided and groups and individuals self guide themselves around the property, it is a good way to explore Douglas Scrub.
