THE PROPERTY




DOUGLAS SCRUB

This magnificent 26 hectare property, owned by Guides South Australia, is bounded by Blewitt Springs Road, Douglas Gully Road and Moritz Road at McLaren Flat.   (Woodstock Wine Cellar and Maglieri Winery are opposite the main gates on Douglas Gully Road).  Features of the property are a 15 hectare heritage scrub, native animals, a dam and a large amphitheatre. ACCOMMODATION

There are three main accommodation areas.  All rooms contain double bunks.   Total accommodation 58 people.

  • Douglas Scrub House.  (floor plan) Accommodates 16.  Main kitchen, suitable for caterers; dining and activity area.  Attached toilet block (disabled access).  Gas barbeque and picnic area adjacent.
  • Paxlease House. (floor plan) Accommodates 30.  Toilets and shower adjacent, additional showers at Douglas Scrub House.  Conference room with TV and video.   Mobile gas barbeque.
  • Paxlease Annexe.  Accommodates 12.  Ensuite facilities, kitchen and activity room.  Mobile gas barbeque.



CAMPING AND CARAVANS

There is one onsite van located on Ken Maguire Reserve adjacent to the toilet block. The van is self contained with small kitchen and eating area, it sleeps four (a double bed and two bunks).

Power points for caravans are available on Ken Maguire Reserve and Pine Flat.

There are three main camping areas:

  • Ken Maguire Rerserve (to the west).  Comprising open camping areas, large toilet block with disabled access, activity/dining shed with kitchen.  Large oval and amphitheatre.  Powered site for 20 caravans.
  • Pine Flat Campsites.  Adjacent to Douglas Gully Road.   Campsites are surrounded by pines, two cooksheds. Pine Flat Cookshed has power, lights, fridge, preparation benches, sinks with water, microwave, chairs and campfire circle. Hackett cookshed is very basic, sink, bench and table, no power. Toilet block across creek.  Mobile gas barbeque available.
  • Forrest Reserve.  Open camping area adjacent to Douglas Scrub House, close proximity to large toilet block with disabled access and heritage scrub.  Gas barbeque near Douglas Scrub House.


PICNIC SPOTS FOR DAY VISITS OR GROUPS

Two of the more popular venues are:

  • The Trefoil picnic shelter.  A favourite venue for many large gatherings, family reunions, community groups and businesses.  The shelter seats 50.   Gas barbeque, trestle tables and power. Toilets adjacent. Also adjacent is our new climbing wall, great for entertaining the children under the watchful eye of parents nearby. A sandpit for the younger children is next to the shelter.

  • Ken Maguire Reserve shed.  Kitchen, dining/activity facilities.   Adjacent to amphitheatre and large parking area.  Gas barbeque.


CONFERENCES

Three areas are suitable for conferences and discussion groups:

  • Conference Room.  Equipment includes:  TV and video, lectern, whiteboard, pin boards, overhead projector, slide projector and screen, tape recorder.
  • Cosy Kitchen.  With small meeting room adjacent to Conference Room.
  • Wide Verandahs.  For small group discussions (outside).

DISABILITY ACCESS

Whilst there are some limitations, Douglas Scrub is generally considered to be appropriate for campers with disabilities and a number of camps where some members are disabled are held at the property each year.

  • Sleeping: all rooms have bunks and there is one only single bed.  
  • Toilet facilities:  Douglas Scrub attached toilet block has two disabled facilities and each of the camp toilet blocks have a disabled toilet and shower facility.
  • Access: there is a ramp to Paxlease House for wheelchairs. Bus/car drop off is directly adjacent to Douglas Scrub and Paxlease Houses. A wide verandah is around both houses.
  • Activities: Unfortunately the wheelchair access trail (Jackies Trail) is presently not suitable for wheelchairs however there are other suitable tracks. The tracks are not suitable for electric wheelchairs.
